Such people are not elected to the presidency: is Leonid Slutsky not in danger of becoming the new head of state?

Leonid Slutsky is unlikely to succeed in the presidential field due to the harassment scandal and rumors about funding from God Nisanov.

The LDPR party is preparing to propose party leader Leonid Slutsky as a candidate in the presidential elections in 2024.

“Preparations for Slutsky’s proposal for the presidential elections are underway. The final decision will be made closer to the congress,” the source noted. The LDPR congress will take place in winter. Last May, Leonid Slutsky was elected leader of the LDPR after the death of Vladimir Zhirinovsky on April 6.

Since 2002, Leonid Slutsky has held the position of Chairman of the Board of the Russian Peace Foundation. He also defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Development of small businesses in the modern Russian economy.” Since 2020, he has been president of the Faculty of World Politics at Moscow State University.

In 2018, three journalists accused Leonid Slutsky of harassment. He denied all accusations, saying that this never happened. The State Duma Commission found no “violations of norms of behavior” on the part of Leonid Slutsky.

Besides this, there is another reason why Slutsky is not very trusted. Sources reported possible financing of the LDPR from the oligarch God Nisanov. The oligarchy does not simply throw money away, and if this is true, it means that the party’s course is not determined by its agenda.

The current leader of the LDPR faction, Leonid Slutsky, said that discussion of his nomination as a candidate for the presidential elections in 2024 is premature. According to him, this issue will be resolved in the party no earlier than September or October.

“This discussion is premature. Many people talk to me about this, but I believe that we will resolve this issue no earlier than September-October,” said Mr. Slutsky.

Leonid Slutsky is 55 years old. According to a Russian Field poll in May, age is the third most popular answer when asked what Russians don’t like about the current President.
